The new gTLD info for Thursday, March 31st

This is the recap of the day for new gTLDs NEWS. We added info from yesterday as we could not post anything. There is a petition to develop a new geographic/community TLD.
We have seen many projects of this kind in Round one of the ICANN new gTLD program and we hope a funding will be found. We faced this stage of a new gTLD project when hunting for money for the dotVinum project in Round one. It really is the hardest part: not to forget that this TLD could already be added to the list of an ultra rich applicant preparing for Round 2...

The problem with initiating such communication so early is that it gives ideas to others: when the first .WINE and .GREEN projects were launched, they thought that they would be alone to submit their application.
  1. Trademark Clearinghouse: the .TUBE new gTLD Sunrise Period was just announced;
  2. New - The .SRD new gTLD project was added to the list of projects for Round 2 of the ICANN new gTLd program on Registries.tel;
  3. Report - new gTLDs related to SPORT (the Wednesday Thursday UPDATE);
  4. Another monthly Newsletter from Registrar, which includes section on new gTLDs;
  5. China wants to block domain names outside the country (...);
  6. Search Engine - a new search engine to use new domain names "only";
  7. New gTLD applicant offers $5 Million to buy 4 other new gTLDs;
  8. Strange - A new way to search and follow the News;
  9. Wine - The .GALLO new gTLD is launched, as well as the .BAREFOOT: did you know that Barefoot uses the word "Champagne" on its wine stickers? ;-)
  10. Online Branding strategy and new gTLDs;
  11. 1,372 domain name extensions are on the market if you include ccTLDs;
  12. Google Domains still not available in other countries but...changed to new .GOOGLE domain;

New gTLDs and Snailmail

Today is a very busy day abroad for me and I will not be collecting info related to new gTLDs: this is why I wrote this post yesterday, on Tuesday, so no posts today and no Newsletter tonight :-)

Dan - we all know who "Dan" is right? - recently honored me with a "What?" as an answer to a detailed email that took me time to write (an email to which I answered: "forget it"). This is a funny way to say that such answers exist on email only: you wouldn't write a postal mail with a "What!" as an answer, would you?
;-)

Here is the linking to new gTLDs: yesterday, I received an intriguing postal mail from abroad related to new gTLDs: it was a large envelop with two paper posters inside.

Christopher Hofman Larsen, from the European Domain Center, took the time to buy an envelop, buy stamps, stick them on the envelop, write my postal address on it with a pen, then walk outside (where there is fresh air) to post it. It probably took a few days to arrive in France and that envelop probably flew by plane. And I forgot: there was a kind letter inside with a real signature.

This post is just to say Thank you because it is rare when someone takes the time to send you a postal mail with a present inside: something that you were not expecting and which is useful. I stuck the poster to Jovenet Consulting's International Headquarters' wall.

The posters are the paper version of the excellent new gTLD Infographic which lists the 882 new domain name extensions.

Comme on dit en Français: "Chapeau bas".

The new gTLD info for Wednesday, March 23rd

There are new gTLDs NEWS today. One thing that I noticed recently is the increasing number of writers and bloggers who add pop-ups to their websites, offering to subscribe to their Newsletter. Many "online communication experts" say that this is now a must-have and it helps readers to come back... I personally don't like it and there is info that I do not add here just because of this reason: these pop-ups are really intrusive, even more when they come back again after they were closed. Oh...if you don't like that pop-up which appears on this blog, you can close it (click on top-right :-)

The new gTLD info for Tuesday, March 15th

Today, I read that there will be a .MOBILE new domain name extension and this captures my attention because there is a MOBI new gTLD already. It was launched many years ago and there are 725,000 domain names registered in this extension (more or less). There were 3 applicants for this extension (check here for the list: "ICANN new gTLD Application Results").
I wonder...who will buy domain names ending in ".MOBILE"? The question was raised recently at another "Multiple Registry" who applied for domain name extensions that will probably sell very few domain names so...why would someone apply for such domain name extension?
I checked figures and I am now certain that it is worth applying for a new gTLD for a speculation purpose. I mean by this that you can earn more money selling a domain name extension in an auction rather than launching the Registry itself and try to sell domain names. Could it be what we are talking about here?
