Register your dot"project".com or not ?
I was wondering who would be the first to register dotcanon.com. Now I know. dotcanon.com was registered last week.
Wether it is a company name, a project or a brand, the «dot» sign seems to become the nomenclature to use when registering a domain name related to a Top Level Domain project.
For example : the TLD project related to the hotel business can be found at www.dothotel.com.
When checking generic keywords : it is possible to «discover» a new TLD project, an old existing web site, a recent page with sponsored links (how surprising?) or...an already cybersquatted domain name.
Now, my concern goes to brands thinking about their personalized TLD : should they register their .com domain name which could inform about their intention to go for their extension or should they not to keep this confidential ?
My advice ?
Chances are high these domains will be cybersquatted at some point anyway. Brands should register, at least, their dot”brand”.com domain name.

Buvons "un.petit.canon"
Il y aura une extension internet .CANON qui autorisera la création de noms de domaine personnalisés pour la fameuse marque du même non. Ces nouvelles annonces, que l'on risque de voir se répéter de plus en plus, donnent une idée du volume de nouvelles extensions internet qui devraient voir le jour en 2011. Environ une centaine de projets existent à ce jour.
Bien que cette marque ne fait pas vraiment partie de la communauté du vin sur internet, il sera néanmoins possible pour Canon de créer un nom de domaine tel que http://un.petit.canon
Amusant certes mais cela dépendra des conditions d'éligibilité aux noms de domaine ".canon" qui seront proposées par la marque lors de la remise de son dossier de candidature à l'ICANN. Car si une marque pourra déposer un dossier de candidature, elle ne pourra pas faire tout ce qu'elle veut.

.KOM domain names ?
As seen before, many new top level domains start to appear everywhere. Many ideas are very good ones. Some are another way to attract the eye.
It si difficult to know if such a .KOM new domain name extension is a real project or not. The ICANN accredited Registrar could submit an application or...it could not.
What to think ?
At the moment I tried to register my guillon.kom, it appeared as "invalid". I wouldn't be surprised it soon possible to pre-order.

Un .VIN d'accord...mais en anglais !
J'aime beaucoup le difficile travail qu'entreprend l'ICANN pour finaliser le lancement des nouvelles extensions Internet. Pour rappel, c'est l'ICANN qui autorisera - ou non - la création d'une extension de nom de domaine ".VIN", ".WINE" et ".VINO".
Pour comprendre de quoi il s'agit, ce n'est pas évident car les noms de domaine sont déjà compliqués à comprendre pour le néophyte alors lorsqu'il s'agit de créer une extension de nom de domaine...je vous laisse imaginer...
Pour réunir toute la planète autour de ces fantastiques projets, l'ICANN, organisme à but non lucratif de droit américain, à besoin de communiquer avec les intéressés et échanger pour construire la méthodologie de dépôt d'un dossier de candidature. Une langue s'est naturellement imposée pour ces échanges : l'anglais.
Pour participer aux échanges avec l'ICANN, donner son opinion, intervenir lors de la conférence sur la mise à jour des nouveaux gTLD qui s'est tenue ce lundi 9 mars 2010 à Nairobi au Kenya, il fallait s'adresser au panel en anglais.
Un intéressé à fait une tentative en français, la transcription de cette intervention en dit long sur la difficulté que rencontreront les "non anglais" à participer pleinement à la création des nouveaux gTLD.
