The new gTLD info for Friday, March 18th

Today is Friday and, like most Fridays, there's not much information related to new gTLDs so when this happens I do an advanced search on Google and here is what I found:on the 286,000 results found,  jovenet.consulting appears on first page of Google's results when searching for any site in the .CONSULTING domain name extension (and I have no idea why). I did the same with .VOTE and guess what I found...
  1. The latest .TUBE Registry website was launched;
  2. New gTLDs make up 10.5 percent of UDRP disputes;
  3. The IANA transition: a mirage? (The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is responsible for the global coordination of the DNS Root where new gTLDs are installed);
  4. Complete list of TLDs maintained by the IANA;
  5. What is the Intellectual Property Constituency?
  6. Hugo Boss leads UDRP filings list as cybersquatting trends are revealed;
  7. Useful - How do you search indexed websites from a certain new gTLD in Google?
  8. ICANN55: Summary of Main points;
  9. .EARTH new gTLD: it's time to officially brand Earth;
  10. More coming.

New gTLDs + Root Zone Management Categories = IANA

Overview and History of the IANA Functions

How the ICANN works is sometimes difficult to understand and the IANA plays a major role in how new gTLDs technically work.

If more people start to know what the ICANN is, very few have ever heard of what the IANA is.

For those interested in knowing more about how is IANA is linked to new gTLDs, I suggest to go down to page 12 of this report and read "3.1 Root Zone Management Categories".

ccTLD not assigned

I just read about the country code Top-Level Domain for SAINT BARTHÉLEMY to be assigned soon (not sure wether this is true or not): the unassigned .BL domain name extension.

Checking the list of ccTLDs at IANA, I found that more ccTLDs are not assigned neither:
  • The .BQ for BONAIRE, SINT EUSTATIUS AND SABA;
  • The .EH for WESTERN SAHARA;
  • The .MF :-) for SAINT MARTIN (FRENCH PART);
  • The .SS for SOUTH SUDAN;
  • The .UM for UNITED STATES MINOR OUTLYING ISLANDS.
Some IDNs are not assigned yet neither.
