Can .WEB revive .WED ?

The .WED new gTLD (for Wedding) is in danger of...never, ever launching. By "launching", I mean to sell domain names. To "launch", a Registry must sell more - much more - than 100 domain names.

I wrote an article about this subject on DomainNameWire and I believe that it is a good read for any coming new gTLD applicant who wants to throw himself in the next ICANN new gTLD round.

Just announced: the .网站 Sunrise Period

The .网站 (.web) new generic Top-Level Domain was announced today by the Trademark Clearinghouse and will launch next week. The Sunrise Period will start on Monday, 26 September, 2016. For those who will be registering their .WEB new domain name in its ASCII version, it can make sense to secure the IDN version of this TLD.

.BLOG domain names are coming

Nominet, a new gTLD Registry services provider, is now indexed in Google and listed using a .BLOG domain name for its blog. Nominet has a certain number of new gTLDs under management and offer registry services for major strings such as .LONDON - .SURF - .BEER  - .WALES and... .BLOG.

New domain name registration volumes:

• New gTLDs related with a French connotation.

In the report can be noticed the slight increase of ".moi" domain name registrations. I went to to the .MOI Registry webpage and liked, as a French native, the explanation for the use a ".moi" domain name: "Un nom de domaine pour les particuliers et les entreprises pour célébrer la langue française en tant qu’élément rassembleur."

Is Buying a .WEB Domain Name Bright?

I agree this article won’t please everyone but there are several reasons why buying a domain name ending in .WEB could be – or could not be – a good decision. I will personally not buy one and here is why:

1. Let’s start with Trademarks;
2. Too many generics?
3. Increasing the value of a .com:
• I have the “.com” equivalent;
• I don’t have the “.com” equivalent.
4. Focus on a domain name with no plural;
5. Buy a descriptive domain name.

New gTLD applicant sues ICANN

The ICANN recently rejected a request to postpone the .WEB new gTLD auction. This time, one of the multiple applicants concerned by the auction sues the ICANN for lack of investigation on auction rival.

More and more new gTLDs are delegated

You probably noticed that many new gTLDs are (and keep) being delegated during the holidays. According to each new delegation,we add gTLDs to the right report. The .SWIFTCOVER new gTLD was added to the CARS report and the awaited .DOCTOR was added to the HEALTH report. The .LUNBECK (a Trademark) just has its first domain name registration listed.
The Generic new gTLD report (see link below) was updated to day and we are happy to see that the .INTERNATIONAL new gTLD receives more registrations than previous weeks before.

Today is ".RIP" Nice

For the second time recently, France is facing another terrorist attack. Today is a sad day and all my thoughts go to these families in Nice whose kids were murdered. I strongly believe that one of the reasons why France is hit so hard is because our Government is so slow at taking the right decisions: our forces are not even allowed to react when they are thrown rocks at during demonstrations. French are seriously pissed by this situation.
