Is the ".com" old gTLD losing appeal?

This week, the GENERIC new gTLD report - a report focusing on challengers of the ".com" domain name extension, shows that there are less ".com" registrations than the week before: it also means that the ".com" Registry is losing registrations. Is the increasing volume of new domain name registered the reason of this?
