Backend Registry: I want you to build my next new gTLD offer

At Jovenet Consulting, we think that the next round of the ICANN new gTLD program will be quite something: we spent the past 10 years watching how existing new registries behave and we now quite know what upcoming applicants want: if some just don't know - like in was the case in the first round, some do.

Many lessons were learnt on applicants' expectations prior to the first round to start in 2012 but today's reality turns out to be different, numbers don't lie : only 6 registries on a list of more than 500 reached out to more than 1 million domain names. Is this where a future applicant wants to stand after 10 years of existence? This is a true question to have prior to submitting a new gTLD application to ICANN.

Combining efforts with a "Backend"

We already know what many upcoming applicants want to pay, we also know that they have high expectations. If submitting a dotBRAND application will be an easy procedure, creating a Registry to sell domain names will not be the same: does an applicant who enters the game want to renew 1.500 domain names each year? Probably not. What about 100,000 or one million? Sounds better doesn't it?

With that objective in mind, applicants will need to address the right partners and backend registry provider: some are already well prepared for dotBrand type of applications but "selling" domain names through the network of accredited registrars will require a studied strategy and a team.

Backend Registry required

Jovenet Consulting is confident that a company willing to invest thousands of dollars/euros in its new gTLD project will want a clear path to success. To do so, we - Jovenet Consulting, want to partner with a Backend Registry provider, not only to develop the best offer on the market but also to be able to offer that "key in hand" solution to our clients.

Our vision is to make it more simple for upcoming applicants to launch their Top-Level Domain. To do so, we want to partner with a Backend Registry provider for which we will sell the offer to our clients if we believe it is a good one. We want this to be a team's job and not a "do it all and send us your client". We are ready to sign a contract for this.

For interested backend registries, please contact us at Jovenet Consulting.

Article: "studying .BRAND New gTLDs"

Many participants in the latest ICANN meeting in Copenhagen asked that same question: "when is the next round of the ICANN new gTLD program?". If the question came from new gTLD service providers, I also noticed that it was different from "the first round": now the question focuses more on .BRANDs rather than Generic TLDs dedicated to selling domain names. The question also comes more from representatives of certain Trademarks who want to acquire a .BRAND domain name extension.

Come on .RICHARDLI : show the example

New gTLDs need concrete examples to gain in notoriety. Famous people, super stars and other popular singers can help achieve this.

Unfortunately, the only person - worldwide - to have considered creating domain names with an extension ending with her name, DOES NOT USE IT.

Mr Richard Li Tzar Kai, a Hong Kong businessman and philanthropist, created the ".richardli" domain name extension but no domain name has been created yet, but one redirection. When you click on http://nic.richardli, you will notice that it works but it redirects to another website.

If I can understand the move to protect some finance personality's name, I don't understand why superstars with a big ego have missed the opportunity to apply for their family or complete name as a domain name extension.

Securing a superstar's name as a Trademark is common. Some even spend outrageous amounts of money acquiring and registering domain names to protect the name of their child so...isn't it time to consider the next round of the ICANN new gTLD program to create a serious and unique buzz?

What about a ".kardashian" domain name extension for a www.kim.kardashian ? Or will it be a www.music.beyoncé ?

.MOTO or .MOTORCYCLES ?

I received an email asking me why the .MOTO new gTLD was not listed in the SPORT new gTLD report.

Answer
The .MOTO new gTLD is a Trademark for which Charleston Road Registry (Google's company for new gTLDs) submitted an application to the ICANN. It intends to operate the extension as a closed registry with Google as the sole registrar and Motorola Mobility (and its affiliates), as the sole registrants.

For this reason it does not appear in the Sport new gTLD report.

Jovenet Consulting is 3 years old...already (new gTLDs).

I want to thank LinkedIn for reminding me that Jovenet Consulting turned 3 a few hours ago.

These past years following the ICANN new gTLD program have taught us many lessons and we are definitely ready for Round two. I won't be introducing Jovenet Consulting here because many of you: friends, clients, partners, service providers have heard from us by word of mouth but for those who wonder what Jovenet consulting is about, here is what we do "in simple words":
  • We talk about new gTLDs;
  • We write Newsletters about new gTLDs;
  • We provide content about new gTLDs to service providers;
  • We write articles about new gTLDs;
  • We help new gTLD projects to develop;
  • We promote new gTLDs on social networks;
  • We help potential applicants find their way in the ICANN new gTLD process;
  • We help open close(d) doors;
  • We complain at ICANN when it is necessary;
  • We congratulate ICANN when it deserves it;
  • We help applicants connect with the right new gTLD service provider;
  • As an independent company, not affiliated with any back-end Registry, we are able to answer all questions.

You noticed? We're about new generic Top-Level Domains "only" and if everything that we do is not expressly explained on our website, it is because every offer, every deal that we have with a customer is a different one.

ICAN to acquire Jovenet Consulting to promote new gTLDs

Jovenet Consulting, the company to have massively promoted new gTLDs from the past four years, was just acquired by the Not For Profit Giant in charge of developing new generic Top Level Domains worldwide.

The American giant, after being criticized for its lack of communication to end-users, has decided to take action and give 1% of revenues generated by new gTLDs to sponsor Jovenet Consulting.

Promote your Top-Level Domain

Promote your Top-Level Domain with the "New gTLD expansion program"

Since June the 13th, all new gTLD applications have been made public and for those who will not be in competition, it is important to start raising interest.

As a person who has been involved in the first and second level domain business, for many years now with a Registrant, a Registrar and a Registry experience, I have decided to innovate and offer new gTLD applicants what they are going to need in the coming months: raise awareness for their domain names.

Simple, cheap and efficient, the objective with this service is to have registrants to be kept informed so that they are ready to buy, when registries launch.

For more information about this program, visit Jovenet Consulting.
